Mix Networks

At a high level, the network is comprised of "Incentivized Servers" that are responsible for all the networking functionality, cryptographic operations, validation, scalability and security of the network and ensure that users' privacy and anonymity is guaranteed even if the entire network is observed by adversaries.

Mix-Net Multiplicity

ZKN is not just a single metadata-private mix network, but rather it is a system for facilitating a multitude of concurrent privacy networks and compatible applications. The multitude of coordinated mix-nets include:

  • mix-net life cycle expressions including various revisions and incentivized test networks, for example
  • different mix-net architectures and parameters suitable for different applications and threat-models within the Anonymity Trilemma of Strong Anonymity

ZKN's research and development efforts include continuous optimized deployments of Katzenpost, an advanced mix-net framework incorporating post-quantum cryptography. Katzenpost features a modular design with cryptographic agility, ensuring future-proof privacy. Its rigorous security design includes a comprehensive threat model for mix-nets.
